What do the initials GSM stand for?

What is GSM?
GSM is an open technology that offers high quality and clarity in voice calls. GSM technology offers some of the widest range of services in the world today. Roaming is one of the main advantages of GSM whereby customers can travel to other countries and use their Digicel Aruba mobile phone. It also offers the highest level of security against cloning of any digital standard. This means that calls are scrambled so that no one can eavesdrop on your conversations. GSM accounts for over 70% of the world's digital market and 64% of the world's wireless market.
How do I find out the balance of my account?
To check the balance of your Digicel Flex account at any time, please:1. Type *142# into the phone2. Press Send 3. After you type the information, check the screen on your phone - the confirmation message with your balance will be displayedTo check the balance of your Digicel Select account at any time, please:Call Customer Care by dialing 145 from your Digicel mobile phone or +297 522-2200 from any other phone.
What if I don't use my whole balance?
Your FLEXcards have the following expiration dates:
Afl 15 expires after 30 days
Afl 25 expires after 45 days
Afl 35 expires after 60 days
Afl 50 expires after 90 days
If you do not use the full value of your FLEXcard within this period, you have an additional 60 days in which you can top-up your account. Any remaining credit on the phone will be added to your new top-up amount. However, if you exceed the 60 days, your SIM will be cancelled and you will need to purchase a new one to continue service with Digicel.
How does the credit limit work on Digicel Select?
With your Digicel Select account, your credit limit depends on the package you have chosen. For example, with Digicel Select 60 your credit limit is Afl 120. Once you reach 75% of your credit limit, you will receive a text message from Customer Care. It is a good idea at this time, to visit a payment center and pay your bill to ensure that you will not be cut off. You will receive another text message at 95% of your credit limit.If you reach your credit limit and are cut off, you have 30 days in which to pay your bill or you will be cut off and you will have to buy a new SIM to continue service with Digicel.
How do I activate my phone?
If you choose the Digicel Flex product, all you have to do is simply make a call to 146 to activate your account. For Digicel Select, the minute you leave the Dealer store your account is active. It's as easy as that!
Can I buy a sim only pack?
Yes! If you decide that you would like to buy a sim only pack you can purchase one from our Digicel dealers for only Afl35.
How do I top-up my Digicel Flex phone?
- Type *141*vouchernumber# into the phone
- Press Send
- After you type the information, check the screen on your phone - the confirmation message with your balance will be displayed
Is there a minimum amount I need to top-up?
Our lowest denomination card is Afl 15.
Why would my account be deactivated?
If you have a Digicel Flex account and your FLEXcard has expired, you will be set in a deactive mode. This means that you can receive calls however, you cannot make calls except those to emergency numbers.
How much does it cost to make and receive calls?
Receiving calls is free. Digicel has introduced two innovative pricing features - a reduced rate for Digicel to Digicel calls and a reduced weekend rate. For a complete breakdown of our pricing, please go to the Tariffs section of this website.
You advertise Day, Evening and Weekend Rates - When do these rates begin and end?
Daytime is from 8am - 6pm Monday to Friday
Evening Time is after 6pm and before 8am Monday to Friday
And Weekend is all day Saturday and Sunday (starting Midnight Friday to Midnight Sunday)
What happens if I don't talk for a whole minute?
No problem - we won't charge you a second more than you speak for. So, when you stop talking, we stop charging - it's that simple.
How do I find out where Digicel has coverage?
Digicel offers extensive all-island coverage. However, for a more detailed map, you can either check-out the Coverage Section of this website, or visit your local Digicel Dealer.
Why is it difficult to get good coverage in elevators and in basements?
In many areas such as inside an elevator or the basement of a building it is difficult or impossible to use your phone. This is because the radio signal cannot penetrate the steel and concrete to reach the handset. The signal strength bars on your phone will reflect the level of coverage you can expect to receive in these locations.
Can I call a non Digicel customer on my Digicel phone?
Yes! You can call anyone you like - even if they're in another country. Just remember to put the country and city codes before the number if you are calling overseas. For example to dial the Netherlands where the country code is 31, please dial +31 and then the number you require. (Please Note: + is an international GSM feature which is used in all GSM networks to replace the code to dial out of a specific country.)
What's the difference between Dual-Band and Tri-Band and what do I use in Aruba?
GSM Mobile Technology operates on three frequency levels - 900 MHz, 1800 MHz and 1900 MHz. Dual band means that your phone will work on 900 MHz and 1800 MHz frequency levels. Tri-band means that your phone will work on all three levels, for example if you're traveling to the USA and plan to use your phone, you would need a tri-band phone as they operate on 1900 MHz levels.In Aruba, we use predominately 900 MHz. All of our phones are dual band so you can still enjoy a great variety of top class phones for every budget. We also have some tri-band phones available should you wish this option.
Is there an activation fee?
There is no activation fee for either Digicel Flex nor Digicel Select customers.
Do I have to go through a credit check?
No, there is no credit check. However, Digicel Select customers are asked to provide proof of ID together with a deposit. The deposit will vary depending on the pricing package chosen.
Can I pick my own phone number?
No, unfortunately not.
Do I have to sign a contract?
Only Digicel Select customers sign contracts. There is no contract for Digicel Flex.
What if my phone is lost or stolen?
If your phone is lost of stolen, report it immediately to Digicel. When you contact us on + 297 5 222 200, we will suspend service to your phone and you will not incur any charges for calls made following this.
Does my service come with Voicemail?
Yes, every Digicel customer gets voicemail at no extra cost. For your convenience Digicel has set up automatic diverts to your voicemail if your phone is switched off or unanswered. You will receive a digiTEXT message informing you that you have a new voicemail.
How do I set-up my Voicemail
It's as easy as 1-2-3 - literally! Simply dial 144 and follow the instructions. You will be asked to select a language and to change your password.
How do I leave a voicemail for someone without talking to them?
To leave a voicemail for someone without speaking to them simply dial 740-0003 and follow the instructions.
Can I check my Voicemail from any phone?
Yes you can. To access Digicel's Messaging Service from your mobile phone, simply dial 144. Or, if you wish, you can dial + 297 740 0003 from a landline, or when you are abroad. If you are calling from a landline, you will be asked to enter your phone mobile number and password. The first time that you dial voicemail you will be asked to choose a password. You will need this password to access your voicemail from a fixed line or from abroad.
How will I know if I get a Voicemail Message?
Once a message is delivered to your phone, a message notification will appear on your phone. Once you get this, simply dial 144 from your mobile phone and follow the instructions.
How many Voicemail Messages fit in my Mailbox?
You can store up to 5 minutes of voicemail messages.
How long are my messages saved for?
You can store unread voicemail messages for 30 days and you can store read messages for up to 17 days. Once you have passed these times, you messages will be deleted from your phone.
What other features does my Digicel phone come with?
All Digicel customers enjoy Call Wait/Call Hold, Calling Line Identity, Call Restrictions, Call Barring, our easy to use text messaging service, digiTEXT, Multi party Conferencing and Mobile E (Email to text with Mobile Email).
How do I send a text message to another Digicel number?
It's easy! Simply compose your text message and either send it to the Digicel number or find the number in your phonebook.
Can I send a text message to a non-Digicel number?
Yes, as long as the number is a GSM number and we have a roaming agreement with them. For a full list of these countries, please go to the Products section of this website and select digiWORLD - our easy to use roaming product.
My friend wants to send me a text message from his email account. Can he do that?
With Mobile Email yes he can! All your friend has to do is send the email from his account to email@example.com and you will receive the message just like a text message. You can even reply to the message if you like. Similarly you can send an email from your mobile phone just like a digiTEXT message. What's the longest digiTEXT Message that I can send and receive?
160 Characters long - and this includes spaces and punctuation! Some handsets, like the Nokia 7250, however, allow you to type messages over 160 characters. In this case, the message will be broken up & sent as separate messages of up to 160 characters each.
How many digiTEXT messages can I store in my inbox?
You can store up to 20 messages on your SIM. However, you will not be able to store this many if your memory is used up on other things such as your phonebook. This takes up a lot of your phone's memory.Some phones also allow you to store messages on the phone itself. For further information on this, consult your Manufacturer's User Guide. It is always a good idea to delete messages as you receive them, to ensure that your memory will never get overloaded.
What if someone tries to send me a digiTEXT and my phone is either turned-off or out of coverage?
The message will be stored for 8 days. If, after this time, you have still not accessed the message, it will be deleted. If the sender has their delivery notification turned on, they will receive a message to this effect.
Who can I receive digiTEXT messages from?
You can receive a digiTEXT message from other Digicel customers or from GSM customers from many international networks.
How does Multi Party Conferencing work?
Multi Party Conferencing allows a Digicel customer to conference in up to 5 other people so that everyone is on one call. It's very easy.
Dial the first person, press 2 send to put the call on hold,
Dial the second person and press 3 send to connect the call together.
Press 2 send to put the call on hold
Dial a third person and press 3 send to connect all people together.
You pay for each call seperately. This feature is only available for calls within Aruba.
Can I use my Digicel phone when I go overseas?
Yes you can. With our digiWORLD product you can roam to over 50 countries worldwide. Digicel has roaming agreements with over 90 different roaming partners around the world. In order to be able to roam with Digicel you must pay a roaming deposit and then contact customer care to ensure they change your roaming profile. How much does it cost to make a call when I'm roaming?
Roaming charges vary depending on what country you are roaming in. The prices differ depending on which country you're calling from and which country you're calling to. Check out the Products section of this web site for a full listing of all prices.
What is digiROAM?
digiROAM is a roaming service available to all Digicel customers when they roam to another 'Digicel island'. If a customer from country A goes to another country (country B) where Digicel operates (such as St Lucia, St Vincent or Jamaica) then instead of paying roaming rates, Country A customers pay Country B rates. For example a Digicel Aruba customer who goes to Jamaica will pay Digicel Jamaica local rates.
